We can’t park outside our homes thanks to ‘bungling’ council – we get fined even though the street is always empty

FUMING locals are fed-up being slapped with hefty fines for parking in front of their own homes - and say the street is always empty.

Residents in Runcorn Road, in Barnton, Cheshire, have slammed council officials for the parking nightmare.

In retaliation they've launched a petition to get their revenge on Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Outraged homeowners explained the forbidden spaces "remain practically empty all day and all night" due to fear of fines.

Petitioners are fighting to see restricted parking zones become residential spots.

They argued: "This area of Runcorn Road used to inhabit a couple of shops, however all that remains is Barnton Pizza (which only opens at night and delivers), as well as two hair salons that have staggered opening times.

"The council have previously stated to the MP in a letter I received that the restricted parking is for 'the wider Barnton village business and residents'."

And, residents claimed visitors are only permitted to leave their cars in these spaces for 30 minutes - which they say is pointless.

They claimed locals are forced to "scout" the streets for "unsafe and unattended" places to park.

"So far, the council and the local MP haven't taken this issue seriously and simply won't reconsider it," they added.

"A petition of at least 30 signatures would put this petition forwards to the council, in hopes some action will be taken."

Local MP Esther McVey said: “I have been contacted by local residents about this and have twice taken it up with Cheshire West & Chester Council who are refusing to change their stance.

"Obviously, this is a decision made by the Council and not by MPs, but I have pursued this for my constituents - as I do with every issue raised with me”

A spokesperson for Cheshire West and Chester Council said: "This petition is live until 31 August and following that date, when it has closed, the Council will consider it.'

This comes after other Brits blast their council for new parking rules and restrictions.

Homeowners in Sutton, South London, were fuming when their council charged drivers who pay with cash more than those who use an app.

Meanwhile, residents of a once-thriving area say it has become a ghost town - and strict parking rules will drive even more people away.

And, a couple are furious after the council fenced off a roadside verge they've used for 35 years to stop them parking near their home.
