War erupts as residents ‘vandalise 4x4s after airport parking firms dump holidaymakers’ cars on streets’ near Stansted

ANGRY residents allegedly covered flash 4x4s in graffiti after dodgy airport parking firms reportedly dumped holidaymakers' cars on their suburban streets.

Eight cars were vandalised in the Essex village of Takeley, just over a mile from Stansted Airport.

Snaps showed garish yellow paint sprayed over several motors including a Audi 4x4.

At least one motor appeared to have also had its tyres let down by vandals.

A sign left on one car read: "This vehicle has been targeted for action by the Takeley Anti-Airport Parkers Group."

It has been claimed that the cars were dumped by airport parking firms which charge travellers £65 to park their motors in "secure" compounds near Stansted.

Acting Inspector Kevin Mayle said: "We believe that these reports relate to ongoing issues regarding vehicles being parked where they shouldn't be, by those going to Stansted Airport.

"While we appreciate that this is incredibly frustrating for those living close to the airport, we ask the public to report parking issues on the Uttlesford District Council website and not take action themselves.

"We are also asking those visiting Stansted Airport to use the available parking and do not illegally park in surrounding roads."

Essex Police confirmed that officers were called to reports that eight cars had been vandalised.

Cops are now appealing for information, CCTV or dashcam footage which could help them collar the culprit.

Stansted Airport said: "There is a claim that the cars have been parked there by an illegal meet and greet car park operator so the owners would have paid a fee - but not for a secure, official on-site car park.

"The airport has worked extremely closely with the local district council authorities for many years on potential fly parking-vehicle issues in the local area."
