I’m a motors expert… here’s why electric vehicles are a disaster – they cause deadly fires & are impossible to run

A MOTORS expert has explained why, in his view, EVs are a disaster, claiming they can even be deadly.

Scotty Kilmer took to his YouTube channel to slam electric cars over a key issue.

Scotty, who has 55 years of experience as a mechanic, told viewers that a recent heatwave in Texas has unveiled a major issue with EV charging.

He said: "Well don't say I didn't say so but I did.

"All the congested transmission lines...cause all this renewable wind power to go to waste.

"There's not enough quality wire that can hold it...they don't have a storage system for it."

This, he claimed, resulted in Texas having to shut down many of its wind turbines as the energy couldn't be loaded into the grid or stored.

He warned that the issues in the electrical infrastructure would present a major issue for EV charging in the event of blackouts or brownouts.

A brownout is when the capacity of a local area is reduced to stop the grid from becoming overloaded.

Scotty added that the rapid growth in EV ownership, largely driven by subsidies and the looming threat of bans on new petrol and diesel car sales, could even be dangerous.

He fumed: "We're going to be driving around in these electric cars that cost a fortune and there's no infrastructure.

"They're totally inconvenient for getting anywhere, the batteries will break, they'll start on fire.

"All sorts of problems."

EV fires have hit headlines this year after a number of high-profile infernos.

Yesterday, a £200,000 Porsche was filmed bursting into flames on a busy Chinese street during rush hour.

And last month 2700 cars were melted when a cargo ship caught light, with the cause suspected to be a fault EV battery.

Fire and rescue experts say that electrical fires are harder to put out than regular car fires due to the materials involved.

In many cases, water cannot be used as lithium, a major component of EV batteries, reacts explosively with it.

Indeed, two major manufacturers recalled several electric models over a fire risk caused by poor sealant allowing fluid into the battery housing.

commenters flood Scotty's video with praise.

One wrote: "Scotty, it’s the truth."

Another added: "Good evening Scotty. Always love your videos and words of wisdom on electric cars...it's all true."

It comes after a major firm's EVs were rated as the least reliable models in a new poll.

Meanwhile, Scotty revealed a rubbish product that "ruined" his car.
