are reminding people to make the most of something called the Sunflower scheme.

In partnership with National Highways, this provides a free Hidden Disabilities Sunflower sticker that can be placed on a vehicle.

It signals emergency services the driver needs extra support and can easily be spotted by breakdown cover or police.

“If you have a hidden disability, wear a Sunflower scheme lanyard and have a sticker on your car," said a spokesperson form the Older Drivers Forum.

"This will discretely alert the police and emergency services that you may need a little more support," they added.

The NHS classifies hidden disabilities as anything from anxiety to sensory loss, as well as dementia and autism.

National Highways explained the sticker could attract extra attention from emergency and breakdown services but also indicate the driver may need extra help throughout the process.

It can help by demonstrating the person needs more emotional or mental support, such as reducing anxiety.

“Anyone with an impairment, hidden or visible, who may need additional support if they break down or need assistance on a motorway or major A-road can display the Sunflower on their vehicle.”

The sticker is designed to be stuck on the rear of the vehicle and should last for three years.
