A WOMAN has slammed a parking firm as ";shameful" after they fined her £277 and threatened a visit from bailiffs because she entered her registration incorrectly.

Clare Marsden accidentally provided the details for her personal car rather than the courtesy vehicle she was using while it was in for repairs.

Clare still paid for her permit at the Excel Parking Services site in Wakefield, Yorkshire, but received a £75 penalty as the car that she was using was not covered by it.

She soon realised her mistake and contacted the car park operator to explain, offering to pay half the fine given that it was due to an error on her part.

However, the company declined and took her to court to pursue the fine.

Clare refused to attend the hearing and the bill has since risen to £277, leaving her facing the threat of debt collectors turning up at her door.

She told : "It's horrendous if someone comes and knocks on your door and says 'what have you got in the house that we can take?'

"It's also shameful to think that I'm being pursued by a bailiff for car parking that I actually paid for in the first place.

"I realised the mistake I'd made.

"So I got back in touch with them and said 'really sorry, it's my mistake, I will pay half the fine'. They said no."

The case follows that of disabled OAP Derrick Walker, who claims he was given "zero minutes" to purchase a parking permit at an Excel site in Nottinghamshire before being handed a £100 fine.

Mr Walker told the : "I have no confidence in anything that Excel Parking does."

As in Clare's case, Excel insisted that the charge was correctly issued and continued to pursue payment.

Excel Parking Services has been contacted for comment.
