A MUM has hailed an easy 65p household item hack that will remove bad smells & stains from a car in seconds.
Professional car valets charge north of £50 to gut most motors these days.
But now experts at ClickMechanic have revealed that an item found on the shelves of most supermarkets and corner shops can be used as a much cheaper alternative.
Andrew Jervis, CEO of the car repair platform , has said that baking soda, which can be snapped up for as little as 65p, could be the answer.
He said: "Our cars play an integral role in daily life for many of us, but keeping them spick and span isn’t always easy, especially when you have children or pets to consider.
"It doesn’t take long for the upholstery to build up dirt and stains, and this can leave your vehicle with a bit of a whiff.
“Thankfully, the solution to lingering smells and stains can be found in our food cupboards for many of us, with baking soda being an incredibly useful tool for cleaning.”
Experts at ClickMechanic recommended mixing baking soda with wine or water, to create an “effective fabric cleaner."
And Mr Jervis tipped customers to leave the baking soda in for at least fifteen minutes.
He added: "If it’s a stain you are tackling, take a damp cloth and dip it into a small amount of baking soda, this can be as little as a tablespoon depending on how big the job is.
“Scrub the upholstered surface with the cloth before wiping away with a clean cloth, and you might want to vacuum the area to make sure there is no residue left.
“If you’re tackling entire areas such as your car seats or armrests, you can sprinkle liberal amounts over the surface and leave it for at least fifteen minutes to work its magic.
“Once it has been given the chance to soak up odours and grime, vacuum thoroughly and any lingering smells that plagued your vehicle should now be gone.”
The expert also warned customers to carry out a patch test in their cars before applying baking soda.
In the video, she applies the product to the sponge and then rubs the sponge over the steering wheel, armrests, and seats.
Meanwhile, one cleaning whizz swears by a top cleaning product that gives his car "the perfect finish".
The motors enthusiast recommends drivers looking for a showroom finish to use microfiber towel to get rid of stains and dust inside the vehicle.
Another convertible owner suggests buying a standard lint roller that would usually be used to brush down clothes.
