With the cost of living and vehicles continuing to rise, many people find themselves unable to afford a decent motor.

But speaking with fans in a Q&A on his website, , the wheeler dealer host provided some hope for people on a budget.

A woman called Helen, from Leeds, asked the motor expert whether she could get a "fun small car" for £2000.

She added: "Unfortunately, it also needs to be comfortable on longer journeys and reasonably practical. So I guess a two-seater convertible is off the list."

But to her surprise, Mike provided the perfect response to her dilemma.

He said: "I’m a huge fan of the classic Mini.

"But as you’ll probably need something more modern my choice is still a MINI.

"That money will be enough to bag a decent Cooper from around 2006/07, and as long as it’s been looked after properly it should provide all the fun you need."

And Mr Brewer is not wrong, with plenty of models selling for less than £2,000 on Auto Trader.

The Mini Cooper is one of the most desirable second-hand cars to buy, thanks to its "fun" factor.

Wheeler Dealers host Mike Brewer takes a spin in purple ‘dream car’ - just days after ‘ridiculous’ hacking storm

But second hand is as good as you'll get these days after the iconic car was discontinued following the launch of a new EV.

Stefanie Wurst, who heads up legendary manufacturer Mini, confirmed the massive change back in September.

Unfortunately for Brits, only the automatic and electric versions will be on sale.

Mike has also revealed some of his own news of late, with the Wheeler Dealers host sharing a "sad and exciting" update on the "last filming day" of the show's latest run, teasing new episodes.

The much-loved programme now looks set to push boundaries and search for broken-down bangers in pastures new.

It came shortly after he was spotted taking a spin in his bright purple "dream car" just days after he was hit by a "ridiculous" hacking storm.

The presenter posted a clip of the test ride to X as he sought to put the events of the past week behind him.
