After picking up the 1991 M997 FLA (better known as a Humvee) they "ended up breaking it all apart" to fully respray the massive motor in a sleek black finish.

Other additions to the exterior included a new set of chunky 37-inch tyres and LED light bars which effectively "create your own daylight" when driving after dark.

There was even a port to plug in a portable showerhead at the back, with access to hot water.

Inside, the design wouldn't look out of place in a luxury home, with a classical black and white colour scheme.

The interior was decked out with white wooden boards to smooth out the previously metallic walls and ceilings.

In the rear, where two stretchers would once have sat, there was now a basic but comfy single bed on one side and a kitchen unit on the other.

The latter came complete with a small sink, dark wooden worktops and a two-burner gas stove, underneath which could be found extensive storage cupboards, bought from Ikea, and a mini-fridge

The unit also housed a 20-gallon water tank and filtration system, allowing the team to access hot and cold running water.

One of the team said: "Every time I think it's going to be too small, I end up having more space than I thought."

At the end of the bed was yet more storage space and a small wall-mounted TV.

I spent 24 hours in the 'world's worst campervan' but it only cost me £500 to fix up & now it’s ‘so nice inside’

Moving forward, the rear portion was divided from the cabin by a short partition on each side.

On the right, this housed a closet space as well as a Wi-Fi router and diesel heater, while on the other was a narrow bathroom kitted out with black tiles second shower unit and a detachable compost loo, which can be moved out when you want to wash.

The cabin was then kept largely in its original form, allowing the truck to be driven as normal across almost any terrain.

Social media commenters loved the unique project.

One wrote: "Finally, a Humvee camper conversion that works.

"Looks great."

Another added: "I’m a former Army medic and I spent many, many nights….weeks…in one of these and you have quite literally read my mind and taken every single idea I’ve had for converting one."

It comes after millions of Brits were urged to try out an "unexpected money-maker" making use of a simple spring cleaning hack.
