‘Here’s something epic’ – Skoda reveals entry-level EV that’s coming soon to rival two major competitors

SKODA has revealed its upcoming entry-level EV, set to debut soon to rival two major competitors.

The Czech brand has promised “something epic” in a glossy new teaser trailer posted to social media.

The Skoda Epiq is set to rival electric SUV offerings from Fiat and Renault

The model is expected to be priced at around £21,000

It will be built based off a design from sister brand Cupra

The new Skoda Epiq is set to slot in as a base-model 4×4, priced at around £21,000 according to .

It is expected to take on the new Fiat Panda and Renault 4 models, offering premium quality for budget-friendly prices.

A concept video for the car shows off its SUV design, calling back to other Skoda success stories like the Enyaq.

The brand boasts of a single-charge range of around 250 miles as well as 490 litres of storage capacity.

Billed as a “city SUV crossover”, it will be able to seat five while, at just under 13.5ft long, remaining nimble and slim enough to negotiate stop-start traffic.

It will be built in Spain based on a design developed by Cupra, one of Skoda’s many sister brands under the VW Group umbrella.

Inside, as is the trend for modern EVs, the styling emphasises minimalism, with almost everything controlled by a large touchscreen display in the centre of the dash.

The surfaces are trimmed with orange LED lights, standing out vividly against the black-and-grey vinyl interior.

One special feature comes in the form of the “Simply Clever” compartments dotted around the motor, including a hidden underfloor storage space in the boot and a wireless phone charger set into the “free-floating” centre console.

And the Epiq is coming sooner than you might think, with the model slated for a 2025 release date.

Oliver Stefani, Skoda’s head of design, said: “Our new design language – Modern Solid – represents the next level of modernity. Smart functionality and practicality are harmoniously balanced by attractive new looks and our sustainability approach.

“The Škoda Epiq design study perfectly embodies all the key attributes of the new design language.”

His praise was echoed by CEO Klaus Zellmer, who added: “The coming Škoda Epiq will package a lot of car for an attractive price and a big interior with a compact size.

“Our customers want choices, which is why we are expanding our growing e-mobility portfolio into this popular segment.

“I hope these first design teasers demonstrate that the Epiq will shine because of its modern design, everyday range and user-friendly technologies – all of it affordable.”

It comes after two major car brands announced they are set to join forces to head off competition from new rivals.
