DRIVERS have been left raving after realising the true meaning behind a common dashboard feature found in nearly all cars.
Driving test specialist Annie Winterburn explained the symbol on TikTok, admitting that even she only found out after decades on the road.
In her video, Annie revealed how the little picture could save you vital time at the petrol station.
She said: "Have you ever got to the petrol station and you can't remember which side to go to fill your car up?
"Well, here's a really easy way of knowing.
"Take a look at the picture of the petrol pump on your dashboard.

"You'll see an arrow next to it.
"This arrow is telling you which side you need to go to fill up."
The small icon is usually found on your speedometer dial or fuel gauge and looks like a petrol pump with a hose coming out of one side.
Often, it will light up if you are low on fuel to tell you when it's time to make a stop at the forecourt.

Most of the time, it is also accompanied by an arrow which indicates which side of the car the fuel filler cap is on.
This allows drivers to work out which side of the pump to pull in at.
Thanks to the neat trick, you can avoid the awkward struggle of trying to pull the filler hose around to the other side of your motor, especially as many won't reach that far.
However, if the arrow is absent, Annie explained that this can still be indicated by which side of the pump symbol the hose is on.
She added: "I don't know why this isn't common knowledge.
"I only found out after 34 years of driving."
Social media commenters also shared their own amazement.
One wrote: "I told my dad this a few years ago and he still thanks me for telling him to this day."

Another chimed in: "I had no idea normally, I walk out the car to check."
