Eric said: "I selected a broad variety of motorcycles that are the best bang for buck and are supremely underrated for what they offer for the price."

Every bike on the list can be picked up directly from the manufacturer for less than £6,000.

They are also available second-hand for much less, with some dropping as low as £2,5000.

The Speed 400 is one of the jewels in Triumph's crown when it comes to lower-capacity bikes.

Indeed, the brand has such faith in the model that it made the Speed a central part of its "modern classics" range.

Designed with retro style harkening back to Triumph's golden era in the '80s, the "beautiful, responsive and agile" bike "sets a new class benchmark", according to the manufacturer.

Eric added: "Look at this thing it looks great.

"What a great-looking motorcycle.

"I don't know why anyone wouldn't be proud to own this thing.

"I think it's the best step forward Triumph has made in a long time."

Prospective buyers can get a newly minted Speed 400 for just £4,995 at the base level.

Given that the bike only came out this year, there isn't really a used market yet, but prices could easily drop well below the current retail price within a couple of years.

CF Moto 450 SR

Being American Eric recommended CF Moto's 450SS as part of his list which, sadly, is not available in the UK.

However, its almost identical brother, the 450SR, is very much available to Brits and brings pretty much all the same attributes to the table.

Slotting into the Chinese brand's sportbike range, the SR uses the same two-cylinder engine as the SS, producing almost exactly the same amount of power and torque at the same revs.

The only real difference between the two is some modification to the exhaust system to make sure the SR complies with European environmental standards.

I think this one is a really good buy

It's also cheap, with the model clocking in at just £5,599.

And, most importantly of course, it looks cool hurtling down the motorway thanks to its forward-leaning riding stance, smooth ergonomics and blacked-out fairing.

However, like the Triumph, the second-hand market is sparse so direct from the dealer is the best option.

Royal Enfield Himalayan

Royal Enfield is a truly iconic British brand which merges its designs seamlessly with elements inspired by its immense popularity in India.

The case study for this is the new Himalayan, which the company says has been "designed for all roads" after exhaustive testing throughout the legendary mountain range.

Rough, rugged and determined, the Himalayan is the ideal bike for getting across any kind of terrain you might face in the wilds of northern Asia, as well as munching up the miles on Britain's motorway network.

Eric said: "I think this one is a really good buy.

"It's a new platform, new engine...it's got a lot of features and tech.

"The 450 Himalayan is really cool."

Pricing can vary based on the optional extras you choose but a base of £4,699 for the 410 version and £5,750 for the 450 makes it accessible for most riders.

And the Himalayan comes into its own on the second-hand market too as it's been around a little longer than the other entries on the list.

Prices can drop as low as £2,500 for a low-mileage 2018 model online.
