This model is said to be in great condition and even drives like a new car

The iconic motor, which is finished in a “gorgeous” Mercury Grey can be picked up in incredible condition – having undergone a full restoration 18 months ago.

According to the listing, “nothing has been scrimped on” with the fast Ford’s underside in such a perfect state “you could literally eat your dinner off of it.”

What’s more, the current owner suggests the motor “drives literally like a new car” with “no rattles, bangs or noises from the suspension.”

The third-generation Fiesta was built between 1989 and 1997 and was a staple of UK roads throughout the 1990s.

Naturally, Ford built a selection of sporty editions, including the XR2i – which boasted 110 bhp, capable of reaching 60 mph in nine seconds with a top speed of 119 mph.

Along with the power upgrade over the standard model, the XR2 also had special bumpers, headlights and alloys.

The listing also adds that this XR2I “gets masses of interest from people, even on short trips to the shops.”

They say it has even appeared in a music video.

Interestingly, they also suggest the motor will go in value in the coming years after Ford recently discontinued the Fiesta model.

Indeed, Sun Motors supremo Rob Gill first announced the news back in 2022 after the little motor had dominated Brit garages and driveways for 46 years.

A brief history of hot hatchbacks

The Fiesta managed to dominate sales for over a decade, being named the UK’s favourite car for 12 consecutive years from 2009 to 2020.

Elsewhere, another fast Ford recently sold for an eye-watering six-figure price – having been kept wrapped up in storage for 16 years.

And drivers looking for something a little more roomy might be keen on a motor dubbed “the most comfortable in the world” by Jeremy Clarkson – all for less than £5,000.
