Stylish hatchback to be released in the UK as a hybrid and will be £9,000 cheaper than the EV version
The model traces its roots back to a '50s icon but was relaunched much more recently.
A STYLISH hatchback is set to be launched as a hybrid in the UK, coming in at £9,000 cheaper than the fully electric version.
Fiat has already dominated the small car segment with the iconic 500 but is now expanding its lineup.
The 500 is one of Britain’s most popular cars ever and still consistently ranks in the top 10 sellers month-to-month.
Hoping to capitalise on its brand recognition and the craze for compact SUVs, the Italian firm launched the 600 back in 2023.
The petrol base model was then quickly followed by an electric variant, the 600e, to coincide with the 66th anniversary of its more famous cousin.
Fiat followed that up with a 100 horsepower mild hybrid 600 in September of last year.
The 600 actually traces its roots back to the 1950s, with the name originally slapped onto a super-affordable family car best known for its bench-like row of rear seats.
It also found fame as one of the few European cars to enjoy popularity in the USSR during the Cold War, being produced in Yugoslavia until 1985 under licence.

The Fiat version of that car was actually discontinued in 1969 but the moniker was revived last year to play into the 500’s fame.
And now it is looking to go a step further, with a beefed up, 135 horsepower hybrid being added to the lineup from this summer.
The new 600 Hybrid model will feature a 28 horsepower motor backing up its 1.2-lite turbocharged, three-cylinder engine via a six-speed manual transmission.
The manufacturer claims that this works out to a very economical 57.6mpg and a top speed of 124mph.
The Hybrid 100 is already on sale, but the 136 will hit showrooms by the end of October, according to Fiat.
However, prices are expected to be notably lower than the 600e, with the base model up to £9,000 less with petrol power.
The hybrid will start at £23,975 for the 100 and £24,975 for the 136.
An extra £3,000 will then buy you a range-topping La Prima variant – but that’s still less than the £32,995 rate for the EV.
A spokesperson for the brand said: “Fiathas increased powertrain options for its award-winning 600, with a Hybrid 136HP option added to the fully electric and Hybrid 100HP that were available for its UK launch earlier in the year.
“The addition of the new Hybrid option is designed to meet the varied need of drivers more closely, whilst prioritising sustainability and performance.
“In line with FIAT’s commitment to simplicity and efficiency, both Hybrid options are offered through the same refined line-up, which features two distinctive trim levels: the standard 600 Hybrid and the premium 600 Hybrid La Prima.
“With no further options needed, the customer simply chooses power, trim and colour.”]
It comes after a much-missed classic model was brought back to the UK market after more than 30 years away.
