SIMPLY SUPERB

Surprise brand unveils ‘unassuming’ sports car-slaying fast estate with power that matches the Porsche 911 GTS

It's powered by the same team that built the 200mph Skoda Octavia vRS

SKODA have revealed a high-performance estate version of the Superb in a one-off special edition release.

Called the Superb Sleeper Edition, this highly practical fast estate features enough space in the back for shopping bags, golf clubs and your suitcases, and enough power to slay nearly any sports car.

Based on the already-quite-punchy Superb Estate 2.0 TSI 4×4 which itself boasts 276bhp, the Sleeper Edition has seen the Superb’s power boosted by a wild 70%.

The upgrade comes from a new turbocharger, as well as changes to the fuel system, intake, and intercooler.

Skoda revealed that they worked with specialist tuners RE Performance – who previously built the Skoda Octavia vRS that recorded a top speed of over 200mph back in 2011 – which has raised the Superb’s power to 470bhp.

Indeed, that means it has similar power – and at 661Nm, more torque – than a Porsche 911 GTS.

Skoda have yet to reveal what the Sleeper Edition’s top speed or acceleration will be, but deduces it could reach a 0-60mph time of around five seconds.

The Sleeper Edition has been described by Skoda as boasting “high performance and an unassuming exterior” – which means that despite its boost under the bonnet, it is otherwise as standard as possible.

Skoda's simply Superb saloon

The Superb has been Skoda’s flagship model for more than 20 years, and has enjoyed a unique status in their line-up.

Launched in 2001, the Superb is renowned for its quality, practicality and value.

In fact, it’s one of the great all-rounders, and the Superb has won more industry awards than any other car in the Skoda range.

The third-gen Superb has been the best-selling to date – with 860,000 cars, accounting for more than half of the 1.6 million models produced over all generations.

A new fourth-gen Superb went on sale in June and delivers even more space, comfort and tech.

It naturally comes with Skoda’s range-topping Lauren & Klement trim and is finished in Royal Green.

As it’s a large estate, the car oozes practicality with 660 litres of space with the rear seats up, and 1,950 litres with them down.

Fans of fast estates will naturally be disappointed to learn the Sleeper Edition is simply a one-off and was made to celebrate the end of the third-gen Superb.

The new, updated version arrived in June.

The stunning super wagon is set for an early 2025 release and will boast a V8-engined plug-in hybrid motor – capable of reaching 189 mph.

Elsewhere, drivers have been left amazed by hidden features discovered in the new Skoda Kodiaq – including tech that prevents door dents.
