First look at the best-selling car brand’s new mid-size SUV that will rival Peugeot and Kia – with release in just weeks
Find out the much-anticipated reveal date
THIS is the first glimpse of a best-selling car brand’s new SUV model, which is set to be released within weeks.
The mid-sized motor is positioned to rival similar offerings from firms like Peugeot and Kia.
Cupra is preparing to add to its rapidly expanding lineup, which so far boasts the popular Leon and Formentor.
The new Terramar was first announced two years ago but has now been confirmed for its much-anticipated debut.
It will be the Spanish firm’s final release to feature a petrol engine.
All models going forward will be EVs ahead of the recently reinstated 2030 ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars.
The Terramar, named for the famous racetrack in Barcelona, will be around 15ft long and will boast an “assertive front end”, according to the manufacturer.
It will make use of the same platform as the much-loved VW Tiguan as well as elements from the Audi Q3, both sister cars given VW Group’s ownership of Cupra.
The model is expected to be offered in pure petrol and plug-in hybrid specs, with the latter offering up to 62 miles of range on electric power alone.
Under the bonnet, it is understood to feature the Tiguan’s 148 horsepower, 1.5-litre mild hybrid powertrain.
A single teaser image of the rear brake light has been released, showing that the Terramar will make use of the triangular design first featured in the electric Cupra Tavascan.
Very little else is known, with no exact specs or pricing information released.
However, it is predicted to slot into the same segment as rivals like the Peugeot 3008 and Kia Sportage.
To be competitive in that market, prices are likely to sit in the region of £25-40,000 for the base model.
Other than that, fans will have to hold their breath until the long-awaited reveal takes place on September 3.
It comes after it was announced that a legendary sports car was set to be reborn almost 40 years after it first rolled off production lines.
Meanwhile, SunMotors exclusively revealed that Russian criminals have been identified as the driving force behind a spate of luxury supercar thefts in the past two years.
