Footage showed the car’s blazing inferno lighting up the late evening sky in East London – with the skyscrapers of Canary Wharf visible in the distance.

The Maserati, which can cost as much as £116,000 new, was shown engulfed in flames as smoke billowed from the wreck of the car.

A concerned local filmed the incident while walking around the car as the amber hue of the blaze illuminated the residential street.

Firefighters from the London Fire Brigade rushed to the scene and were able to safely extinguish the fire with no reported injuries.

London Fire Brigade : “Firefighters were called at 5.57pm on September 15 to reports of a car fire on Roffey Street, E14.

“The fire was safely extinguished and there were no reports of any injuries.”

Maserati is one of the most prestigious luxury carmakers in the world and was at one point owned by Ferrari.

Earlier this month, a car in Bristol burst into flames, causing the driver and passenger to flee for their lives.

The blaze also engulfed a further three vehicles in a suburb of the city as a series of “explosions” rang out.

Eyewitnesses reported that the motor caught light without warning while travelling along a busy street.
