According to a report by the , the garage made reference to a number of incidents involving "violent, threatening and non-paying" customers in a social media post.

A spokesperson opened up on how the small business, which had been going for eight years, relied on “people’s integrity and respect” and bemoaned late or missed payments.

The garage had previously been forced to reduce its working hours to Monday to Friday to allow a better work-life balance for its staff - with only breakdowns attended to on the weekends.

The post added: “People seem to not realise the effect of their actions, we get called out to jobs at all hours of the day, for the longest time we would be on call 24/7.

“No-one should get out of bed at 02:00hrs to attend a breakdown and be shouted at.”

However, it seems a major issue was with a small number of customers who refused to pay on time - or at all.

They added: “A business such as mechanics, along with the vast majority of small businesses, only work efficiently with a steady cash flow in and out of the business. We have payment terms for a reason.

“It's to enable us to continue serving, now when you pay late, when we have to involve solicitors and small claims courts, this impact can be massive, both to the business and personally.

“A small business is not a bank, we are not a credit card, there's no interest free period, minimum payment etc, there's an invoice, a bill with a set payment deadline.

“99 per cent of customers understand that, to the one per cent who don't, do us a favour and go shop at a multi-chain who can afford to wait, who has a team of lawyers whose job it is to deal with people like you.

“Stay away from small businesses who rely on people’s integrity and respect.”

This comes as another beloved car dealership has announced it will close three of its sites - as it relocates to a new “three-in-one” outlet.

The firm has been supplying Brits with models from iconic brands including Ferrari, Porsche and Mini for nearly six decades.

Elsewhere, drivers are being warned to expect travel carnage this half term as a raft of closures were announced for a bevy of major A-roads this week.

More than 80 routes across the UK will see some form of disruption - and that's before emergency shutdowns are taken into account.
