A MAN has shared how he makes £1,000 a month from renting his EV charger that he has installed outside his home.
Joseph Gorham, 53, paid £350 for his charger which he rents out to fellow electric car owners.
The Brighton resident has four parking spots he rents out to visitors through the YourParkingSpace app.
He charges £10 per parking space for a 24-hour period.
Customers are entitled to the optional use of the EV charger which he has included in the price of parking.
His driveway is always full of drivers and the number of people looking for an EV charger is increasing, Joseph told the Telegraph.

Around 13 drivers booked his spots specifically to charge their electric cars so far this year, he added.
He told the paper: “I don’t do it specifically for an income – I do it because I think that the council in Brighton just charges so much money for parking and it doesn’t encourage people to come and spend in the city.”
It usually costs £1,000 to install a charge at your home, according to The Eco Experts, an environmental consultancy.
But this is reduced if you own an EV yourself.
It typically takes just over a year and a half to break even with the money saved by circumventing public charging points.
If the charger is rented out however, this can be a good opportunity to make a few extra pounds.
For a typical electric car with a 60kWh battery and about a 200 mile range:
- Charging at home: Costs about £13 for a full charge.
- Charging at work: Many employers will install workplace charging points and typically offer free access throughout the day.
- Charging at public locations: The cost of public charging at supermarkets or car parks varies based on the chain, location, and speed of the chargers. The average cost is around £26 for a full charge.
- Rapid charging: Rapid charging points are normally found at motorway service stations and typically cost about £19 for a 30 min, 90 mile charge.
Many of those renting out their driveways said there is higher demand for affordable parking than for the EV chargers.
It's also worth noting that renting out a charger will earn you less if you don't already have an EV yourself.
This is because of the staggering £1,000 it costs to have the charger installed.

In some cases too, homeowners will need to apply for planning permission if they wish to install a charger.
This is true for anyone living in a conservation area.
