The collection includes rare Porsche, McLaren, Lamborghini and Mercedes supercars.

Also on display are hundreds of stunning Ducati and Aprilla superbikes.

Some of the superbikes were used in the gruelling Paris-Dakar desert rally.

The collection also boasts a number of delivery-condition classic 1990s Ford Cosworths.

Millions watched Cosworths sweep all before them in the British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch and Silverstone.

There are also collector's items like rally star Colin McRae's trusty Vauxhall Nova.

But the gem of the collection is the Lotus Cortina used as a getaway car in the Great Train Robbery.

Touring the collection in a YouTube video, motoring whizz Jonny Smith recalled the car's unique history.

He said: "This was the actual Great Train Robbers' getaway car. They used it after the robbery to get away from the scene.

"They left tyre tracks at the scene and the forensics caught up with them later on.

"That's how they got caught - because of this actual car. It was one of the largest robberies in history at the time.

"They stole something like £2.6million which in today's money is about £69-70million.

"It's an incredible amount of money. And these are the exact same tyres.

"They took an impression of the tyres and that's how they got caught."

The private car collection was briefly opened up to the public in November to raise funds for the Moulsdale Foundation charity.

A spokesperson said: "We’re thrilled to announce our monthly Open Days at our classic and performance car and motorbike museum."

They added: "It is home to Scotland’s largest classic car and motorbike collection.

"At this exciting event, you’ll have the unique opportunity to get up close with our breathtaking collection of more than 400 classic cars and motorbikes.

"From timeless vintage vehicles to rare collector’s items, experience the history, passion and beauty behind this iconic collection.

World's largest car collection boasts 24-carat gold plated Rolls-Royce & 25 Ferraris kept in garage of 1,788-room palace

THE world's largest car collection boasts a 24-carat gold-plated Rolls-Royce and a whopping 25 Ferraris.

Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and his family had kept the huge haul hidden in the garage of a lavish royal palace, until now.

Hassanal Bolkiah has been Sultan of Brunei since 1967 and Prime Minister of Brunei since its independence from the United Kingdom.

He is said to have an estimated net worth is $30bn.

In photos that have never been seen before, the world caught a glimpse into the Sultan's excessive luxury car collection that he kept inside his 1,788-room palace.

From The Bugatti EB110 to a Bentley Buccaneer, there's quite the range.

In fact, it's estimated there are around 7,000 luxury cars, worth over $5bn lined up in Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah's garage.

Most of them are understood to be in untouched condition.

The collection includes six Bentley Dominators - the company’s first SUV - and the 1996 Bentley Buccaneer, a sporty coupé.

To add to the mystery, the Sultan had several cars made just for him; the Bentley Camelot, Phoenix, Imperial, Rapier, Pegasus, Silverstone and Spectre.

In total, the family own 380 Bentley's.

But the largest collection of all is the Sultan's Rolls-Royces.

His 600-car Rolls-Royce fleet includes bespoke and secret vehicles such as the Rolls-Royce Royale, Majestic and Cloudesque all big and extravagant limousines.

The Sultan's Silver Spur II has been seen more regularly than others but it is no ordinary Silver Spur - the exterior is 24-carat gold plated.

Other noteworthy cars include specially commissioned Ferraris – among them the 456 GT Venice and an F90 supercar commissioned in 1988 and the 1995 FX.

Rare but not bespoke Ferraris include the 250 GTO, the most valuable of all Ferraris and the F40, arguably the most exciting of all Ferraris. He owns 11.

Brunei's Buggati's are also a sight to behold.

His collection also includes the McLaren F1, Jaguar XJ220, a unique Brunei-commissioned Aston Martin Vantage "Special Series", a one-off BMW Nazca M12 concept and a Bugatti EB110.

Plus thousands of other wonderful cars, all garaged in a vast automotive palace with separate wings for the most important marques.
