Shipping container full of iconic motors including pristine ‘hot hatch’ discovered in back garden
A PETROLHEAD was left stunned after being shown a shipping container in a back garden filled with two ultra-rare classic cars.
In a video posted by George from the TikTok account, viewers were treated to the surprise find that had been kept hidden away from prying eyes.
The motors, which weren’t abandoned but were merely being stored inside the container by the owner, were a pristine Mk1 VW Golf GTI from 1983 and a Mazda 323.
The Golf GTI, which is widely considered the original ‘hot hatchback’ and was recently celebrated at the Classic Motor Show in Birmingham after it turned 50 years old in 2024, is considered an icon by fans today.
This particular example is a 1.8-litre powerhouse, and is worth serious money in the classic car market.
The other, a 1989 Mazda 323, is also widely considered one of the most iconic classic cars among fans.

The owner mentioned it was a project car and included a full service record, further making it extremely valuable.
In December, Sun Motors spoke to Anna of the Mk1 Golf Owners Club, who told us what made the original Golf so special.
She said: “I think it's iconic, and it brings back people's memories of childhoods of that era - it’s like their dad's car.
“And I also think it's all about getting in one. It’s the smell when you climb in.

“It’s the way it looks, they’ve got a certain shape. There’s not a shape like that around now.”
This comes as a warehouse full of dust-covered classic cars was recently discovered which housed Bentleys, Porsches, and Jaguars.
The rusting antiques are thought to be worth a whopping £1million - but they're sitting in a graveyard collecting moss.
Urban explorer BeardedReality, real name Daniel Sims, made the vintage find last year and is set to document the journey in an upcoming YouTube video.
The 35-year-old is refusing to reveal the location of the barn and said he was tipped off about the find by another urban explorer.
Daniel said: “I don’t know anything about the history of the place other than whoever has been collecting these cars for decades and has an impressive collection which they must be proud of.
"Iconic cars such as Bentleys, Porsches, Peugeot GTIs, various Mercedes, MGs and quite a few imports from different countries are hidden here and would be worth a minimum of, from what I saw, over £500,000 to £1,000,000, based on basic calculations."
