BMW discontinues beloved high-performance model and halts ALL orders after just five years

Although it's still listed at a hefty £137,850

BMW are set to discontinue the incredibly cool M8 Coupe, according to reports.

The sporty motor, which combines fierce good looks with a 4.4-litre turbocharged V8 that is good for 617 bhp in Competition spec, is to be pulled from showrooms in the early part of this year, at least in the US.

As reported by Auto Week, dealers will no longer accept orders for the two-door, fixed-roof version of the M8.

However, convertible and four-door Gran Coupe variants will remain unaffected.

As for the UK market, there has been no official announcement regarding the discontinuation of the M8 Coupe.

Therefore, it is currently still available.

Indeed, the M8 Competition Coupe is listed from £137,850, while prices can vary depending on the body style and optional features selected.

Discontinued or not, the model is a rare sight on UK roads regardless; according to Still on the Road, in the first quarter of 2024, there were just 692 BMW M8 Competition models registered on UK roads.

The latest iteration of the BMW M8 has been around since its debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.

Production began in August 2019.

This comes as BMW unveiled their first ever electric version of the iconic M3 back in November - with more power than its petrol counterparts.

The new EV will be accompanied by a more traditional alternative as the German firm looks to "hedge its bets".

Reports suggest BMW bosses were not keen to put all their eggs in one basket when it came to the next generation of one of the brand's most popular models.

Instead, the decision was made to develop two different powertrains alongside one another, with two versions of the car eventually offered to customers.

One of these is reportedly set to be an all-electric M3, which could be dubbed the iM3.

This variant is also expected to be given a power boost, mostly to account for the fact that it would likely be between 400 and 500kg heavier than the petrol version.
