DODGE has released the world's most exciting muscle car, and it is perfectly legal to drive on the road.

First revealed at the New York International Auto Show, the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is a street-legal V8 that is so powerful, the American National Hot Rod Association (NRHA) has already banned it from the drag strip.

Boasting 840 hp and 770 pound-feet of torque, the 2018 Demon can do 0-30 mph in just one second, 0-60 mph in 2.3 seconds, and cover the quarter-mile in a ridiculous 9.65 seconds while reaching a top speed of 140 mph.

That blistering quarter-mile allowed it to claim the Guinness World Record for the fastest by any production car.

The car has so much power that during testing on a drag strip, it also set a Guinness World Record as the first production car to pull off a wheelie straight off the start line under full acceleration.

Head of Chrysler passenger car brands Tim Kuniskis said the Dodge being banned from drag racing was more an honour than anything else - it is simply too powerful to be able to compete fairly.

"We had one single goal – nine seconds,”

“That’s exactly what we wanted - we wanted to impress the NHRA.

“The NHRA thought I’d be angry so they delivered the news to me in person. I wasn’t angry at all. In fact, I hugged them.

“We set out two years ago with the Demon to be the best and the most.”

Despite its sizeable 6.2 L V8 engine, Kuniskis claimed that the car is more than suitable to be used as a "daily driver", and is even able to run the quarter mile in a lightning fast 11.59 seconds while in Eco Mode.

Dodge are yet to release the price of the Demon, but it is expected to be less that £100,000.

“The price will be way below six figures,” Kuniskis said.
