AN ASTON Martin DB7 once owned by Elton John is going up for sale - at a reasonable price.

Pre-auction estimates slate the car to go for between £23,000 and £27,000.

That's a light price tag considering it was once owned by one of the world's biggest pop stars.

The estimate is about a third of what the car cost back in 1995, when Elton bought it for £80,000.

That's the same as around £160,000 in today's money.

The 1995 coupe was done up with the classic British racing green paint job and a light leather tan interior.

Elton himself requested the colourway for his wheels.

The superstar also kitted out his motor with the best of the '90s mod cons.

He had a six-stack CD changer installed, wired up to an Alpine stereo and amplifier and complete with a remote control system.

Elton even enjoyed the luxury of a Motorola car phone, to chat to his celeb pals on the move.

Other features include cruise control, heated front seats and an Aston Martin stainless steel exhaust system.

Perhaps the most attractive aspect of the car are the stats.

In 30 years, the DB7 has racked up just 14,500 miles.

The owner will be able hitting 60mph from standstill in just 5.6s with the punchy 3.2-litre engine.

The motor will go under the hammer at the Imperial War Museum in Cambridge next month, sold by auction house H&H Classics.

John Markey, specialist at H&H Classics, said: “Sir Elton John clearly has a very good taste in cars as the DB7 is regarded as a modern masterpiece.

"This desirable five-speed manual transmission example is low mileage and finished in the eye-catching British Racing Green paintwork, so we expect there to be a lot of interest from fans of Sir Elton John and car lovers alike.”

He added: “As well as looking amazing, the DB7 boasts top performance figures and could easily reach over 160mph.

"This is a cossetted example, which means that after 20 years it is still standing and would be a great addition for enthusiasts wanting to own a car with celebrity appeal.”
