Map reveals eye-watering parking fees at the UK’s seaside resorts ahead of Bank Holiday weekend
As millions of Brits prepare to head to the coast to enjoy the long weekend, soaring parking prices threaten to spoil the fun
BRITS keen to spend their Bank Holiday by the seaside could find themselves severely out of pocket if they fail to plan ahead.
Research into parking rates for popular British coastal destinations has as found that regular daily prices could be increased by as much as five times over the long weekend, with drivers that fail to book their parking in advance likely to be the worst affected.
The information gathered by YourParkingSpace.co.uk revealed that drivers could be charged as much as £24 more for a day's parking if they choose to just turn up on the day, but stood to make significant savings should they reserve their spot ahead of the weekend.
In the most extreme case, drivers heading to Brighton could be charged up to £30 to park from 9am-5pm, but would save 80 per cent should they choose to book ahead with the online marketplace, giving them a daily rate of just £6.
Booking online could almost halve the parking bill for those visiting Margate and Southend-on-Sea, with daily rates set at as little as £6.25.
Great Yarmouth attracted the cheapest rate at £3.50 per day, giving drivers a saving of 53 per cent, however last minute rates in the Norfolk coastal town were also significantly cheaper than most other destinations.
Harrison Woods, managing director at YourParkingSpace.co.uk, said: “Shopping around beforehand can massively reduce the cost of parking in seaside resorts this Bank Holiday, plus there is the reassurance of knowing that the parking space is reserved, avoiding the headache of driving around looking for an empty space.”
Securing all-day parking can be the difference when it comes to avoiding hefty fines for overstaying your welcome in timed parking zones.
Last month, The Sun Online reported a 28 per cent increase in the number of parking fines dished out in 2016/17, with 4.71 million handed out across the financial year.
