Frankfurt Motor Show 2017 has kicked-off and opens to the public on September 16 - here's what not to miss at the show

And we've got the lowdown on what not to miss at the 67th IAA International Motor Show this September.

Home firms like Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Volkswagen made the biggest noise on the opening media day - the Mercedes Project One hypercar the undoubted star.

Mercedes was particularly busy as it also unveiled plans for its new EQ sub-brand that will bring electric cars to the masses.

BMW didn't hold back either handing world debuts to the X3, Z4 concept and Mini E.

It also pulled the covers off a new electric coupe that'll take the fight to Tesla within the next five years - plus a giant new range-topping X7.

Audi wasn't resting easy either and its Audi Aicon concept - that has no pedals or steering wheel - attracted hundreds of intrigued fans.

There was no shortage of world debuts for other new cars like the Bentley Continental GT, Porsche Cayenne, Ferrari Portofino and a whole range of budget SUVs like the Kia Stonic and Hyundai Kona.

But it's the wacky one-offs that really make a motor show - and Frankfurt hasn't disappointed.

Perhaps the most off-the-wall design was the Renault Symbioz which included the home of the future and a car that parks on your roof.

Land Rover launched its most extreme model ever - the Discovery SVX - and Jaguar revealed its new all-electric racing series that will see drivers take the 2018 I-Pace to tracks around the globe.

Despite the mammoth show, several mainstream manufacturers stayed away - Peugeot, Nissan, Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Jeep all chose to dodge one of the biggest dates in the motoring calendar.

Here are some of the highlights from the showfloor.
