Aston Martin unveils its stunning new £500,000 Zagato – but it has already SOLD OUT

The Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Speedster is the latest model in a family of four special editions due to be made

ASTON Martin has pulled the wraps off a stunning new Zagato special edition - but even if you can afford it, you can't have it.

Just 28 of the Vanquish Zagato Speedster models will be made at a reported £500,000 each and they've sold out already.

The Speedster joins the Coupe and Volante versions which debuted last year and will be followed by a Shooting Brake variant in 2018.

Power will come from a 592bhp 6.0-litre V12 engine and a Zagato suspension set-up.

The new model has several styling tweaks over the other family members with a different front grille and headlight design.

The two-seater cabin also has two "speed humps" on the rear to mimic the trademark bubble-roof that appears on the coupe Zagato.

The body is made entirely from carbon fibre and features "blade" taillights carried over from the Aston Martin Vulcan and 3D Zagato "Z" motifs throughout.

The car takes inspiration from the 2003 DB AR1 Zagato that is fully open-top with no temporary cover even if the rain comes.

The Speedster will be joined next year by a Shooting Brake version - Aston Martin's first ever "estate" in its history.

It will also get the V12 engine and 99 examples will be made, although they're already fully sold out, too.

The concept design shows the bubble-roof with glass inlays to let light flood into the cockpit.

Despite its size, the Shooting Brake is a two-seater leaving a luxuriously trimmed rear cabin that features a tailored luggage set.

The family of four is the latest tie up between the British maker and the Italian coachbuilder that dates back to the DB4 Zagato that was first seen at the London Motor Show in 1960.

In total just 325 of the Coupe, Volante, Speedster and Shooting Brake will be made - 99 of each except for the ultra-rare 28 run of the Speedster.

Marek Reichman, Aston Martin chief creative officer, said: "We haven’t released Zagato models as a family before, at least not in this way, but the idea is not without precedent.

"Think back to the DB7 Zagato and DB AR1, or the V8 Zagato Coupe and Volante, for example. We’ve simply taken things a few steps further.

"Why create a family of Zagatos? Well, many of our customers want different things.

"Some prefer the purity of a Coupe, but others love the idea of something more extreme, like the Speedster. And yes, some of them have ordered one example of each."
