New 2018 BMW M5 breaks cover with jaw-dropping 592bhp V8 engine – but you’ll need £90,000 to get your hands on the supersaloon
The 155mph BMW M5 will hit showrooms from February next year to rival Mercedes AMG E63 S
THE new BMW M5 has finally been revealed with a V8 engine capable of producing 592bhp.
And the £90,000 supersaloon will take the fight to the 612bhp Mercedes-AMG E63 S when it goes on sale in February 2018.
It's capable of 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds with a top speed electronically capped at 155mph.
The M5 will make a full debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month having been revealed as one of the headline cars in the upcoming Need for Speed Payback video game.
Now in its sixth generation, the BMW M5 features all-wheel drive for the first time although the clever system will only send power to the front wheels when the rears lose grip.
There are plenty of customisable settings on board the new model through BMW's Drivelogic system with modes from efficient and slick gearchanges up to racetrack performance.
The gearbox is an eight-speed Steptronic auto and an electronic steering system has three modes depending on how you're planning on driving.
To help cope with the monster power generated by the 4.4-litre V8, BMW has added a pair of new turbochargers, a track-spec oil pump and a revised exhaust system.

To save weight, aluminium is used on some panels and the roof is carbon fibre reinforced plastic.
The cabin has M badges throughout with new sports seats, digital dials, and two red buttons for adjusting the car's setup.

And despite its racetrack power, there's plenty of luxury and tech inside, too, with gesture control and a large touchscreen display.
Matt gold carbon ceramic brakes can be selected on the options list if the vented brakes don't cut it.
And there are exclusive paint colours available, too: Marina Bay blue metallic is standard but matt colours like Frozen Dark Silver and Frozen Arctic grey can also be requested.
