Lucky dad, 64, walks away from 250mph horror crash with just ‘cuts and bruises’ after failed land speed record attempt
DRAMATIC footage of a 250mph crash has emerged with the lucky racer somehow walking away unharmed.
Daredevil David Tremayne, 64, was attempting to break the UK land speed record in his jet-powered car when it flipped and landed on its roof.
The smash brought back memories of Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond's life-threatening crash 11 years ago at the same airfield that left him in a coma.
But David walked away with just a few cuts and bruises despite rocketing along the Elvington runway on his side at speeds of 100mph.
The on-board cockpit camera shows the heart-stopping crash moments after David clocked 296mph but happily ends with the Darlington driver clambering out.
It was the first run and impressively he got within 30mph of breaking the record before the brutal accident.
And he's already planning to get back behind the wheel to have another crack at the 301mph record - once the car has been patched up.
He told the Northern Echo: "It was interesting how detached you can be, how devoid of serious heart-in-the-mouth fear or adrenaline surge.
"We averaged 275.2 mph through the 500 metres, which we covered in four seconds. It peaked at 296mph.
"To have it within 30mph of the record on the first ever run was something.

"Then as I put the parachute out suddenly the car went sideways, it was on its side and rolled over at around 250mph, I jumped out and it carried on down the track.”
"I always believed the car would never hurt me. I am quite stoical about it."
