From Princess Diana to Cristiano Ronaldo – 8 famous cars and their celebrity former owners
Even if the car itself isn't worth a fortune, their former drivers make them one of a kind
WHERE there are celebrities, there is rarely a shortage of flashy cars.
From high-powered supercars to vintage classics, the rich and famous are always out to impress in their motor.
For the rest of us, owning the same car as a celebrity is largely a pipe dream that will go unfilled.
But every now and then, a rare celebrity model will pop up into the public eye, giving us a chance to see how the other half live.
While they often demand a buying price far exceeding the average person's range, they can also sell at auction for a very reasonable - and affordable - ticket.
We have compiled a list of eight cars once owned by some of the most globally renowned celebrities to have their motors passed on at public auction.
Read on to see which are the most pricey, and which cars have the most modest value despite their pedigree.
Ferrari Daytona - Elton John
Purchased using the profits from his Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album, Sir Elton purchased this Daytona back in 1973, and drove it for just two years.
The racy Ferrari was once the fastest road cars in the world with its 4.4-litre 352bhp engine helping it reach a top speed of 175mph.
The Daytona model on sale is one of just 158 right-hand drive models ever built and one of the most well-preserved survivors.
When auctioned off in mid-2017, it was valued at £575,000.
Lamborghini Diablo - Jay Kay
A star of the Jamiroquai film clip Cosmic Girl, this special edition Diablo came with a price tag just shy of £550,000.
Lead singer Jay Kay bought the car for himself after it was used in the 1996 video shoot, before selling it on again in 1999.
Powered by a 5.7-litre 500bhp V12 engine located at the rear of the car, the Diablo – named after a Spanish fighting bull – can accelerate from 0-60mph in 3.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 200mph.
And its interior is as eye-catching as the bodywork, boasting blue suede everywhere.
Since its rockstar owner, the car has seen numerous private buyers.
Audi A4 - Princess Diana
Despite its famous former owner, this A4 convertible sold for just £58,000 at auction in mid-2017.
Driven by the Princess of Wales, it was used as a family car in 1994, ferrying Princes William and Harry around during the summer months.
The royals only had the car for a few short months, returning it to the dealer later in 1994.
Rolls-Royce Phantom VI - Tom Jones
Not the most timid of celebrities, it is no surprise one of Tom Jones' former rides comes complete with the personalised number plate "TJ BIG".
Tom Jones was reported to have owned the bespoke Rolls-Royce back in 1971, which was fitted with a custom cigar case, Phillips vinyl record player and Sony TV in the rear.
Sold on by a private collector who needed to free up some space, the car was given a value of just £75,000.
Ferrari 360 Spider F1 - David Beckham
One of many to have passed through the Beckham garage, the 2001 Spider comes with a price tag in the range of £100,000.
Becks owned the 3.6 litre V8 at the turn of the century, just prior to his move to Real Madrid.
HOLLYWOOD WHEELS The top 10 greatest movie cars of all time… from gadget-packed motors to classic high-powered luxury
Capable of the 0-60 mph dash in just 4.2 seconds, it was mainly spotted chauffeuring the star midfielder to and from Old Trafford.
It was hard to miss with the "D7 DVB" personalised plate, too.
Ferrari F40 - David Gilmour
Formerly owned by Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour, the 1988 F40 was given an estimated value close to £1 million.
Boasting a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with a top speed of 200mph, the car was purchased direct from the Ferrari factory in Maranello, Italy by the rock icon.
Fellow bandmate Nick Mason also picked up one of the sleek sports cars, and the pair then proceeded to road trip across Europe with their new wheels, all the way back to the UK.
After being purchased by an enthusiast in the early 2000s, more than £300,000 worth of restoration work went into the car.
Audi A3 - Cristiano Ronaldo
Pairing with a name like Ronaldo, most of us would expect to see the likes of Bugatti or Lamborghini on the list.
But back when the Portuguese international was playing for Manchester United as an 18-year-old, he drove something a lot less flashy.
The A3 coupe was the footballer's first car, bought new in 2004.
Surprisingly, despite its pedigree ownership, it went up for sale in early 2017 for just £13,500 - just over £6,000 less than a brand new Audi A3.
Rolls-Royce Phantom III - Winston Churchill and King George VI
Used during the D-Day plannings, this Phantom drove some of Britain's most influential characters during WWII.
The 1936 model Roller once used to drive King George VI, General Eisenhower and Winston Churchill to secret planning meetings, claiming a small place in British military history.
Described as possessing “tremendous torque and smoothness”, this particular vehicle had its 7338cc engine rebuilt, along with a newly-fitted overdrive for its four-speed gearbox.
Presented in immaculate condition, it was valued at just under £200,000 early in 2017.
