'pride and joy'

Tara Palmer-Tomkinson’s beloved BMW unused since her tragic death this year is on sale for just £8,000

The 2004 convertible was the 'pride and joy' of the popular TV personality before she tragically died in February and her family is now sending the car to auction

A BMW that the late Tara Palmer-Tomkinson once described as her 'pride and joy' is being sold by her family following her death earlier this year.

The 2004 BMW 645i convertible was owned by the famous socialite from nearly new until she passed away in February.

It was parked outside her £4.4million Chelsea flat still loaded with her favourite CDs and empty McDonald's wrappers when she died at the age 45 of a perforated ulcer.

And it's remained unused since with her family now sending the car to auction.

Close friend of the Royal family, Tara never had kids but doted on her nieces and nephews who will benefit from the sale of the car.

The model is listed in good condition and currently registered in the name of James Palmer-Tomkinson - Tara's brother.

Tara was often photographed in the desirable drop-top on her way to parties and events.

And she was left in bits when it was stolen in 2005 by a notorious gang as part of a high-value car theft ring covering 34 cars worth nearly £2m.

Tara said at the time: "It's my pride and joy. If anyone can help me I will be happy to treat them to dinner."

It was later recovered at Birmingham Airport before it could be shipped abroad.

The car has a silver body and plumb coloured interior, both of which remain in excellent condition.

It has an automatic gearbox and under the bonnet there is a 4.6 litre V8 engine.

Nick Lumby, senior specialist for H&H Classics said: "You wouldn't necessarily buy one for the school run but the BMW's 6-series convertible is surprisingly practical for a high-performance soft-top.

"It certainly has the 'feel good factor' that's for sure.

"For a 4.6 litre V8 it can get 30mpg on a leisurely run on the motorway and it really is a lovely car to drive."

The sale takes place at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford, Cambs, on November 15.
