The UK’s ‘most wanted’ car revealed – and it’s good news for German motors
THE most in-demand cars in the UK have been revealed - with Germans cars coming out on top.
Auto Trader's 'most wanted' list shows what Brits were searching for in 2017 as they hunted for a new set of wheels.
Seven of the top 10 are all German - with the majority from premium manufacturers as buyers look to splash the cash.
The BMW 3 Series retained its spot at the top for the seventh consecutive year with the ageless VW Golf in second place for the ninth year.
The Mercedes C-Class rounds out the top three with the E-Class also featuring alongside the BMW 1 Series and 5 Series - plus the Audi A3.
Britain's best-selling car - the Ford Fiesta - ranked seventh, while the only British-built car that made the list was the Vauxhall Astra in 10th.
The data is compiled from the 60million visits by Brit car buyers each month to its site.
Its annual figures also revealed the hit diesel has taken in the past 12 months following the news of a 2040 ban and promises of tax hikes next year.
Diesel searches still remained the top of any fuel type but they were down a massive 32 per cent on 2016.
Meanwhile, petrols, hybrids and plug-in electrics all soared to record levels.
The Nissan Leaf was the top choice for electric car buyers ahead of the BMW i3 and Mercedes B-Class.

Ivan Aistrop, road test editor at Auto Trader, said: "These results show that British car buyers are very keen on spoiling themselves, with premium manufacturers featuring very heavily in our list of most searched-for cars.
"In fact, if you look at the list of most searched-for diesel cars, you’ll see it contains more premium products than for any other fuel type, suggesting that diesel cars are still desirable for buyers despite recent negative press coverage.
"At the same time, one look at the list of the most searched-for electric cars shows you that the market now offers some really capable and desirable choices, putting us in a great place to take the step towards an all-electric future."
