The new US-based series kicked off last night in style with a rare 1995 Ford Escort RS Cosworth.

It's just one of 24 important to the USA - with only 12 are registered for driving on the road.

It's some way to start for Ant, 38, who couldn't hide his delight at being able to work on the famous "Cossie" engine when Mike drove the iconic whale-tail model into the garage.

The rally legend is one of a number of "Fast Fords" that have surged in price in the last year.

And the Wheeler Dealers presenters reckon 80s and 90s cars will continue to soar in value.

Brewer, 53, told The Sun: "People have started to look at more humble cars. But it's still a market that's increasing as cars become rarer.

Ant added: "People want the cars they would've lusted after in the 80s or 90s."

Mike and Ant's quest to breath new life into some of the most iconic cars also stops off at BMW, Alfa Romeo, Jeep and Saab.

And the team have been keen to give it a more global and UK feel rather than focus on purely American classics as in recent series.

The show, now in its 14th series, is viewed around 22 countries with more than 100million viewers - but this is the first without original host Edd China.

Semi-pro footballer Ant, who replaces Edd as head tinkerer, said it was a dream come true to work on the cars he idolised as a kid

He said: "I've always had a car project on the go - so if you can make your hobby a job you've cracked it.

"I keep asking 'what is the catch?' I get paid to work on cars. It's an incredible privilege to do what you love."
