MEN may no longer need to make the difficult choice between breaking the law or busting their bladders thanks to a bizarre portable toilet device.

Dubbed the "Car Pool", the plastic tinkle aid means you won't ever need to chance an embarrassing fine for public urination behind a tree or down a back alley the next time you're out on the road and nature calls.

Created by structural engineer Eric Bert, the "Car Pool" is an expandable tube that can be attached to any drinking bottle, allowing the user to easily relieve themselves in the car - without the risk of spillage or injury.

The tube expands to 18-inches and comes with a universal head fitting which forms a water-tight seal with bottles and cans.

Bert said his £19 product works by attaching it to an upright container then expanding the tube.

The flexible plastic cylinder bends and with a diameter of around 2.2-inches, it is designed to stay in its position throughout the journey.

The device can be used with a single hand, so for those able to multitask, it's the perfect stress-reliever for anyone stuck in traffic with a full bladder.

And while it's probably not a good idea to be fumbling with your manhood as you cruise down the motorway, a quick stop on the side of the road will leave you feeling much more comfortable without having to step out of your car.

New York-based engineer, Bert, took to Kickstarter to launch a crowdfunding campaign for the gadget.

Describing it as "one of the greatest technological breakthroughs of the 21st century", the 36-year-old took a rather lighthearted approach to the product's marketing.

Eric Bert said: "I would be at the top of a bridge hundreds of feet high and wouldn't have anywhere to go to the bathroom.

"Then a lightbulb went off in my head and I came up with the idea for The Car Pool.

"At this point I decided I really wanted to do something important with my life, make a change on a global scale, do something that would make the world a better place, not only for our generation, but for our children, and our children's children, so I quit my job and developed The Car Pool.

"It took me a long time to come up with the final design and find the materials to develop one of the greatest technological breakthroughs of the 21st century."

But while his pitch might appear to be taking the p*ss, the product seems entirely legitimate.

Having raised more than £12,000, the project has far exceeded its funding goals, and is expected to be available for purchase in March this year.

It's not the first time someone has tried to solve being caught short in your car.
