Brits pay up to £3,000 A YEAR on parking – shopping centres and hospitals top list for biggest fees
Parking fees are burning a giant hole in the pocket of British motorists. And hospitals are among the most expensive places to leave your car
A NEW study has revealed the incredible amount Brits fork out for parking each year - and the surprise locations that will see you paying the most.
Researchers found that the majority of drivers pay more than £1,000 a year to park their car, while some are incurring parking costs in excess of £3,000.
Conducted by online car servicing provider, , the survey of more than 1,000 motorists found that 77 per cent would spend up to £1,040 per year, while 16 per cent said they would spend anywhere up to £2,040 in a 12-month period.
The remaining few claimed their fees could reach as much a £3,000 in a single year.
Research also uncovered the places Brits would be asked to shell out the most for parking.
Unsurprisingly, shopping centres took the biggest toll, while parking at work also burnt a hefty hole in driver's pockets.
Other motorists complained they incurred excessive fees at hospitals, train stations, airports and even at church.
Current pricing has led the majority of motorists to call for parking fees to be scrapped entirely from hospitals and medical centres, with others claiming they should not have to pay to park at the shops.
CEO and founder of Servicing Stop, Oly Richmond said: “Motoring is becoming more and more unaffordable by the day with emission zone charges, increased taxes, insurance hikes and Brexit on the horizon making way for pricey models.
"We’re always trying our best in the industry to keep costs low but parking is one thing that we’re always going to have to contend with.
“The odd few pounds here and there may annoy you, but when you see the figures rise into the thousands it’s a scary thought.
"Add a few thousand onto your tax, insurance, fuel and servicing costs and well.. It can make any sane driver reconsider their travel methods.”
