Orlando Bloom CRASHES Formula E race car into the wall during Marrakesh birthday party
The Hollywood A-Lister climbed in the cockpit of the electric single-seater to celebrate his 41st birthday. But he couldn't handle the power and ended up in the wall
PIRATES of the Caribbean star Orlando Bloom crashed a 140mph racing car into a wall during his birthday party.
Bloom was celebrating his 41st birthday at the Formula E race in Marrakesh - but things didn't quite go to plan.
After being given instructions from championship leader Sam Bird in a BMW i8 supercar, the Hollywood A-Lister climbed into the cockpit.
Bloom, who joked he was "a natural" during practice, couldn't handled the power of the all electric Renault race car.
The actor locked up his rear tyres and then got a bit heavy-handed with the throttle on a tight left-hander, sending the car spinning out of control.
Unable to catch the drift he ended up with his nose cone planted in the street circuit's barriers.
The front wing of the electric car was snapped leaving Bloom red-faced.
The safety car had to come and retrieve the stricken actor who was luckily unharmed in the low speed shunt.
Fortunately, as it was his birthday, the team bosses saw the funny side and said they "forget to tell him rule one - no crashing."
They even gave the embarrassed Bloom the broken carbon-fibre bodywork to take home as a souvenir.
After he'd changed out of his race gear, Bloom strolled along the Formula E grid - also attended by Leonardo DiCaprio - before the Moroccan race started.
After the chequered flag had dropped, the Lord of the Rings star headed to his party where he was presented with a birthday cake in the shape of the race car.
Fortunately he didn't drop the cake - or burn himself on the candles.
