BMW X4 revealed: The new £43,000 sporty SUV will hit 155mph – and even the key has a touchscreen
The sporty SUV has sold 200,000 since it made its debut in 2014. The new generation is now available to order with prices starting at £42,900
A NEW BMW X4 has been launched with prices starting at £43,000 for the sporty SUV.
And it's bigger and better than the outgoing model which has sold 200,000 around the world since 2014.
UK buyers will only get a diesel option for now - a brave move in the current climate - but a petrol could follow in the future.
The options list is more generous when it comes to kit, though, headlined by the cool digital key.
As well as doing the boring old job of unlocking the car, it also has a 2.2-inch touchscreen that can close the windows, operate the heating and show fuel and other vehicle information.
The X4 is also one of the most connected cars on the market thanks to its ConnectedDrive services.
It can work with iPhones, Apple Watches, Android smartphones, Google Home and Amazon Alexa.
This allows you to plan your route at home before syncing it to the car's in-built system. You can then complete full door-to-door guidance by transferring back to your device after you've parked.
All this is displayed on the iDrive system built into a voice control-enabled 6.5-inch display on the dash - this can be upgraded to a 10-inch screen with gesture control, too.
The X4 also gets a panoramic glass roof, as well as three-zone climate control, and heated and cooled seats.
BMW has gone heavy on driver assistance systems, too, with active cruise control, lane assist, crossing traffic warnings and parking help.
To look at, some may argue not much has changed with the trademark kidney grille at the front.
But look at the back and you'll see a heavily redesigned rear that's added 81mm to its length (it's a fraction wider, too).
That means boot capacity is up to 525 litres and there's a shade more rear passenger legroom.

It's also been lowered to give the coupe-SUV a sleeker look on the road.
Despite its bulk, it's pretty nifty on the road in the top spec diesel (starting from £55k) punching out 326bhp with 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds and 155mph top speed.
The model is on sale now with a world premiere scheduled for the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.
