Ferrari 488 Pista revealed: Stunning new supercar will hit 211mph but has an unintentionally rude name

New Ferrari supercar is finally unveiled with stunning performance - but a name that doesn't quite have the same meaning if you're not Italian

FERRARI has finally pulled the covers of its new track-ready supercar - and its name has caused quite a stir.

The 488 Pista will top 211mph from its howling 711bhp V8 engine making it one of the fastest Ferraris ever.

New Ferrari 488 Pista is here - but the name has caused a stir

But the name, which means "track" in Italian, doesn't work quite the same in several other languages around the world.

For Brits it sounds a bit closer to toilet humour than you'd expect for a stunning new supercar.

And a quick search on Google Translate reveals it's got some some other rather interesting translations, too.

In fact, in Estonia and Ukraine it directly means "p*ss" while Ferrari will be hoping the 488 doesn't end up with its Bengali translation: "crushed".

Around the globe the Pista - which was originally believed to be called the GTO - can also mean "dirty", "dance floor", "runway" and "pistachio".

If you can put the name to one side - which makes claims for entry into our most ridiculously named cars list -  the 488 Pista is one hell of a car.

Engine produces 711bhp - the most powerful Ferrari V8 ever

It follows a long line of heritage in Ferrari producing track-ready version of its supercars.

The 360 got the Challenge Stradale, the F430 turned into the Scuderia and then there was the 458 Speciale.

The Pista produces 711bhp from its 3.9-litre V8 - enough to race from 0-62mph in just 2.85 seconds - and 0-124mph in a staggering 7.6 seconds.

Incredibly that's quicker than the flagship Ferrari LaFerrari that's now selling for over £5million at auction.

There's no official price but it's expected to top £200,000

It weighs the same as a family-sized hatchback so imagine strapping a monster engine into your Ford Focus - then blasting off at the traffic lights.

That's about where the similarities end though with carbon-fibre aerodynamics tweaks and special racing parts fitted.

There's a new bonnet, front splitter and rear-wing all aiding handling out on the racetrack. All that is enough to increase downforce from the "standard" 488 GTB by 20 per cent.

The 488 Pista also gets the famous Ferrari racing strips down the centre of the car to mark it out as the "track" model.

There's no price officially confirmed but expect it to cost over £200,000 - expect more details at the Geneva Motor Show.
