Drivers could soon pay for anything from coffee to a hotel online from their car
Hyundai is developing new technology that would allow customers to save their payment details onto their car's computer and buy as they drive
DRIVERS could soon be able to buy a coffee or order their dinner while on the road.
Korean manufacturer, Hyundai, is working on new connected car technology that will allow motorists to pay for a number of services straight from their vehicle.
Developed in partnership with software company, Xevo, the tech is being designed to simplify daily purchases for drivers.
Current connected software in some luxury motors already allows the driver to track down contact details of restaurants or hotels and get in touch, but Hyundai's new developments promise to add something extra.
The technology will allegedly store the driver's card details within the on board computer allowing purchases to be made over the internet.
The user will be able to access the internet via the infotainment screen, and make purchases like you would do on your computer or smart phone.
But while it's still in its very early stages, the software will need to take into account security risks and driving laws.
The system would need to be voice activated to avoid potential distracted driving charges if users were to operate it while actually on the road.
And it would also need to develop some advanced data protection methods to keep the owner's payment details secure.
The connected tech is currently being developed by Hyundai's North America arm, but it could well make it to the UK if it proves successful.
