Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the classic Steve McQueen film, Bullitt, the beastly motor was first revealed at this year's Detroit Motor Show.

The manufacturer has now announced a production run for the UK until June 2019.

It's now available to order for British drivers for delivery in September, with prices starting from £47,145.

The "King of Cool" raced the original American muscle car in one of the ultimate movie car chases of all time back in 1968.

It shot to fame in the near-10 minute long sequence that features explosions, high-speed jumps and near misses as McQueen chases down two hitmen through the streets of San Francisco.

And 50 years on, Ford is hoping to reignite that excitement with their latest revamped model.

The new 5.0-litre V8 Bullitt Mustang produces 475bhp with a top speed of 163mph.

It also comes with range of new interior features including Recaro leather seats, B&O PLAY audio system and a special white cue ball gear knob.

Prior to its reveal in Detroit earlier this year, the car was launched by third-generation McQueen family member Molly in a tongue-in-cheek remake of the Bullitt scene.

In the clip Molly races a modern-day Dodge Charger around a car park to secure the final empty space.

Darrell Behmer, the Mustang’s chief designer, said: “This new Bullitt is, as Steve McQueen was, effortlessly cool.

"As a designer, it’s my favourite Mustang – devoid of stripes, spoilers and badges. It doesn’t need to scream about anything – it’s just cool.”

Earlier this year, we reported on the original Mustang from the film being unearthed 40 years after it disappeared.
