New 250mph Tesla Roadster will be fitted with ROCKET engines, according to Elon Musk
TESLA'S new Roadster sportscar will come fitted with rocket engines, according to billionaire founder Elon Musk.
And it could boost the already lightning-quick electric motor to new heights.
Posting on Twitter, Musk claimed the "thrusters" would be part of an optimal SpaceX package for the electric coupe.
Already tipped as the fastest production car in the world, the Roadster could blast past its 250mph top speed with the addition of a proposed 10 rocket thrusters placed around the motor.
In a series of Tweets, Musk said: "SpaceX option package for new Tesla Roadster will include - 10 small rocket thrusters arranged seamlessly around car.
"These rocket engines dramatically improve acceleration, top speed, braking & cornering. Maybe they will even allow a Tesla to fly..."
And the billionaire CEO even went as far as to claim the Roadster would perform better than some of the most iconic sports cars ever made.
He wrote: "19 years ago, when my 1st company got bought, I had to decide between buying a house in Palo Alto or a McLaren F1 (best car ever imo).
"Was no contest. I bought F1 & a small condo that was much cheaper than the car. New Tesla Roadster will exceed all gas sports cars in every way."
Despite not being due for delivery until 2020, the Roadster has already attracted plenty of attention from fans after Musk promised incredible performance stats.
And launching one into orbit around the Earth also helped to boost the motor's profile.

The base model will be capable of 0-60mph acceleration in under two seconds - but if the rocket idea becomes a reality, those numbers could prove even more impressive.
And the open top - which has a lift off roof to store in the boot and seats four - promises a staggering range of 630 miles from its 200kWh battery packs.
