Taking its name from the iconic DBS made famous by James Bond in the late 1960's, the new supercar also shares a likeness with the 630bhp DB11 AMR model which proved a crowd favourite among fans of the modern high-powered Aston.

The Superleggera will effectively replace the Vanquish S as the manufacturer's top performer, and it has even been tipped as a competitor for Ferrari's fastest production car, the 812 Superfast.

Both boast a blistering top speed of 211mph, while the Aston manages to get there using just 715bhp - 74bhp less than the Italian model.

Dubbed the "brute in a suit” by the company's Chief Creative Officer, Marek Reichman, the £225,000 coupe represents the peak of Aston Martin performance.

And it doesn't skimp on luxury features inside either.

Keyless entry, tyre pressure monitoring system and a 360-degree camera with Parking Distance Display and Park Assist are all standard.

While it also features a DAB plus Bluetooth audio system with phone streaming, iPod, iPhone and USB playback, sat nav and a wi-fi hub along with leather and Alcantara upholstery.

Aston Martin President & Chief Executive Officer, Dr Andy Palmer, said: “DBS Superleggera not only marks the return of a great Aston Martin name, but signals our return to the very pinnacle of the Super GT sector.

"Handsome beyond measure, its lightweight carbon composite and aluminium body is sculpted into a shape with tremendous presence and charisma.

"Thanks to the remarkable torque available from its twin-turbo V12, DBS Superleggera also packs a breath-taking punch, yet its dynamics have been carefully honed to engage drivers of all ability levels.

"Immaculately styled, obsessively engineered and outrageously potent, the new DBS Superleggera is every inch the Aston Martin flagship."
