According to a report by , crooks could be using the tow truck as part of a scheme to target specific models.

At least five cars have already been targeted in streets in Tameside, Oldham and Manchester city.

The motors included three Audi A1's, a limited edition Vauxhall Corsa turbo and a Vauxhall Mokka.

Manchester Evening News claimed local police have confirmed at least two of the thefts are linked, while after reviewing CCTV footage, the owners have said they are convinced all five motors were targeted by the same truck.

In a series of CCTV clips, the tow truck can be seen driving up and down the street, appearing to slow down as it passes certain models.

The driver reverses the truck up to the front of the targeted motor, sliding a metal platform underneath its front wheels.

One of the clips shows a hooded thief jump out and appear to help the driver guide the truck underneath the car.

A different angle shows another motor being towed away by the large white truck.

All the cars were allegedly stolen within a few weeks of each other, from mid-July to early August.

CCTV footage of the attempted Mokka theft showed two hooded thieves crouched down next to the motor, shortly after the white tow truck had driven past.

The par try to rock the car, before appearing to give up and abandon their attempt.

All five incidents are currently being investigated by local police.
