Is this the world’s greatest drag race? 12 supercars face off in quarter-mile showdown

With a lineup worth £1.2million and boasting almost 6,500bhp, the short race produced some interesting results

Could this be the greatest ever drag race?

A line-up of 12 supercars have faced off in a thrilling quarter-mile dash on a military runway to find the ultimate dragster.

Set up by the popular Motor Trend Channel on YouTube, the race pits some of the world's best and fastest supercars, luxury coupes and hot hatches against each other in a battle of pure acceleration.

Cars from the Channel's Best Driver's Car competition were chosen to race for the 2018 Drag title.

The impressive roster boasted a combined 6,400bhp, with the value of the 12 motors coming to a whopping £1.2million.

Some of the most expensive motors featured in the lineup included a McLaren 720S, Porsche 911 GT2 RS, Lamborghini Huracan Performante and an Aston Martin Vantage.

Racing just a quarter of a mile (400m) across the Vandenberg Air Force Base runway, the group produced some interesting results.

The 720S ended up taking the victory in the short dash, closely followed by the Porsche and the Lamborghini.

But it was the middle of the field which saw the most impressive performances.

BMW's M5, with a 0-62mph time of 3.3seconds, finished narrowly behind the Corvette ZR1 - the most powerful motor in the pack.

And towards the back of the group, the Alfa Romeo SUV came very close to beating the rapid Aston Martin Vantage.
