This is why your next McDonald’s drive-through could cost you £536
One in three Brits have hit a bollard in a fast-food restaurant's fast lane
YOUR next Big Mac could cost you a whopping £536, as one in three Brits admit to having an accident whilst in a fast-food drive-through.
Sheffield drivers are the worst culprits, with 40 per cent claiming having bumped their car on an unexpected bollard, according to a new survey by .
More than a fifth of the accidents occurred at McDonald's, followed by 10 per cent at KFC and seven per cent at Subway.
Starbucks, Costa and Greggs were also listed as the most common places to have a drive-through accident.
A quarter of UK drivers even said they're afraid of using one at all, in case they misjudge space or struggle with the tight corners.
Some also gave the reason of just being scared of dropping their order in the gap between the car window and service hatch.
Unsurprisingly, young drivers have logged the most drive-through accidents - with 55 per cent admitting to have done so.
This was followed by almost half of 25 to 34 year olds and over a third of 35 to 44 aged motorists.
One in ten drivers have also used a drive-through the morning after a night of heavy drinking.
Meanwhile, a whole new bumper costs £536 on average.
MORE FROM MOTORS
Worryingly, 12 per cent of people surveyed did not know that it is technically against the law to pay using a mobile phone whilst in a drive-through.
Brits could be fined £1,000 and receive six points on their licence for the offence.
However, this is only if their engine is still running and a police officer deems that the driver's attention is distracted from the road.
