Homeowners can now make extra cash just by adding this one simple feature to their driveway
Experts predict there will be more than 200,000 electric cars on UK roads by the end of this year, increasing the demand for charging points
HOMEOWNERS could make a tidy weekly sum just by adding an electric charging point to their driveway.
With electric cars becoming more common, the demand for EV-friendly parking spaces is rising.
Brits are already making an average of £1,140 each year by renting out their unused driveways and parking spaces with YourParkingSpace.co.uk, and now they can add even more profit.
Using an electric charging point at home to power up an EV will cost the homeowner around £3.50 for a full charge.
But the average space on the parking website charges motorists an additional £9.80 for the same electricity usage per day, on top of the daily rate for the space alone.
This can give homeowners a potential earnings boost of up to £6 a day, or more than £1,000 a year.
Experts predict there will be some 200,000 EVs on British roads by the end of 2018, leaving thousands searching for places to power up.
The average electric car takes around four hours to fully charge, meaning motorists could park their motor before work and have a full range when they returned in the evening.
The parking hire website has now partnered up with Zap-Map, the UK’s top platform for finding EV charge points.
Customers can make bookings for YourParkingSpace.co.uk through Zap-Map, giving homeowners the chance to advertise their electric car spaces on the platform.

Harrison Woods, managing director at YourParkingSpace.co.uk, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for driveway owners with a charge point to make some extra money as the electric revolution takes off, especially given the fact that the Government is committed to banning the sale of new petrol and diesel cars in just over 20 years.
“It also means EV owners can leave their cars to top-up on juice as they enjoy other activities such as going to the shops, watching a football match or having a meal.”
Last year, we revealed how Brits can make as much as £2,300 each year just by renting out their driveway.
