Londoners now have another car-sharing app to travel with, as BMW expands its own DriveNow service

BMW has expanded its ride-sharing service to five new London boroughs, putting an additional 410 premium BMW and MINI models on the capital's roads.

Westminster, Barnet, Tower Hamlets, Southwark and Brent will benefit from the DriveNow website and app.

A total of nine London areas are apart of the global programme, including existing boroughs Hackney, Haringey, Islington and Waltham Forest.

The fleet has also more than doubled with 720 cars available for use, with the electric BMW i3 leading the selection.

An additional 80 i3s will be added to the car-sharing service in January - DriveNow's ambition is to have an 80 per cent electric fleet by 2025.

Other models available are the MINI Clubman, MINI Convertible, MINI Hatch and BMW 1 Series.

The service was founded back in 2011 and was bought by BMW in March this year.

DriveNow's aim is to reduce the number of privately-owned cars on the road in a bid to combat air pollution.

Drivers can hire motors by the minute, hour or day - with prices starting from 33p for every 60 seconds.

Hourly packages cost around £8 and a two-day hire is £140, including insurance and fuel expense.

It has over one million users sharing 6,000 vehicles across Munich, Berlin, Dusseldorf, Cologne, Hamburg, Vienna, Copenhagen, Brussels, Milan Helsinki and Lisbon.
