Melbourne man, Bruce Bromley, posted footage of the incident to Facebook group , claiming “this cobber was determined to get home”.

Bruce had been driving along the Monash Freeway about 2.30pm on Friday when he noticed a tiny vehicle cruise by his left hand window.

But after realising it was an elderly man on a mobility scooter with a top speed of 16kmh (10mph), he tried to help.

Bruce wound down his window and yelled out to the man: “Move over, mate, you’re on the freeway."

Desperate to help the man, Mr Bromley called the police to explain the situation and continued driving slowly behind him with his hazard lights on.

Mr Bromley told 7 News: “I was just completely shocked.

“I just told him to try and pull over and he told me to f*** off.

“It was very aggressive, but at 92, the poor bugger was just confused and a bit overwhelmed.

“If I wasn’t there, he would have got collected, and I couldn’t sleep at night if something like that happened.”

Mr Bromley called police while on the motorway, who arrived on the scene just four minutes later to stop the joy ride.

The elderly man was taken to Glen Waverley Police Station, where his family came to collect him.

During the ride, the elderly man would veer into the service lane, then back onto the left hand lane of the freeway, unsettling Bruce at every turn.
