BMW drivers are most likely to have a driving conviction, according to a study

BMW owners are most likely to have a driving rap, a study says.

MoneySuperMarket analysed 6.5million insurance inquiries, covering 632 car makes and convictions acquired over the past five years.

Offences included speeding, drink or drug driving, careless driving, failing to stop at an accident or running a red light.

BMW 730d drivers topped the list at 21 per cent, pipping BMW 225d and Maserati GranTurismo on 20 per cent.

Least convictions came from Rover 416 and 216 owners (two per cent) and Ford KA, Hyundai Amica and Nissan Sunny (three per cent).

Men were more likely to have a motoring rap sheet than women — nine per cent compared to six per cent.

Scotland (ten per cent) topped the regional list. London, where the average speed is just 19mph because of congestion, was bottom at six per cent.

Just one per cent of drivers aged 17-19 had a motoring conviction.

Worst offenders were the 25-29 and 40-49 age brackets at ten per cent.
