Diesel car scrappage system could be introduced to cut emissions and improve air quality
Government source confirms talks have taken place with Treasury and officials have now set to work on plan
A DIESEL car scrappage scheme could be introduced within months as part of plans to reduce emissions and improve air quality.
Officials in the departments for transport and the environment are already working on a scheme to offer discounts on low-emission cars if people trade in their old polluting vehicles, The Daily Telegraph reported.
The oldest and most polluting diesel vehicles in areas where emissions levels are particularly high are likely to be the main target.
