A DIESEL car scrappage scheme could be introduced within months as part of plans to reduce emissions and improve air quality.

Officials in the departments for transport and the environment are already working on a scheme to offer discounts on low-emission cars if people trade in their old polluting vehicles, The Daily Telegraph reported.
